New leaks suggest that the Xiaomi is preparing to release Xiaomi 18Ultra earlier than expected this year
According to information shared by the well-known tipster Smart Pikachu, the company may maintain the same release pattern it used for Xiaomi 17UltraInstead of the device launching early this year like the older Ultra models, the upcoming Xiaomi 18Ultra could debut in China towards the end of the year, possibly around December.
The camera system could see a major change, as Xiaomi is reportedly testing a quad-camera setup for the... Xiaomi 18UltraThis will be a change from the Xiaomi 17Ultra, which moved away from the traditional quad-camera setup and introduced a mechanical zoom solution. If the latest leak is accurate, Xiaomi may be returning to a quad-lens configuration to offer more focal length options and improve the overall versatility of the camera.
Before the Xiaomi 17 Ultra adopted the triple camera setup, Xiaomi used a quad-camera system – as in Xiaomi 15UltraThis setup included a 50MP main wide-angle camera, a 50MP telephoto lens, a 200MP periscope telephoto lens, and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera. Unless Xiaomi introduces a completely new camera concept this year, a similar configuration could return on the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Ultra.
To understand the direction Xiaomi might take with the 18 Ultra, it helps to recall the specifications of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, which was launched in China about three months ago (in December). The phone features a 6.9-inch LTPO OLED display with a 2K resolution, with a refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor paired with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage.
The device packs a 6,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery with support for 90 W wired charging and 50 W wireless charging. It also has an IP68 Rating for dust and water resistance.
Photography has always been the main focus of Xiaomi's Ultra series. So, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra features a 50MP main camera with a 1-inch sensor and f/1.67 aperture, along with a 50MP ultra-wide camera that offers a 115-degree field of view. The telephoto system uses a 200MP sensor paired with a Leica APO lens, providing continuous optical zoom from 3.2x to 4.3x.
With the Xiaomi 18Ultra, leaks suggest that Xiaomi may expand the camera system again, while also upgrading the chipset and battery capacity.
More details about the additional lens and the final hardware that the device will have are expected to appear in the coming months.
