A big reason for this attention from consumers in China is Xiaomi's most distinctive design choice this year. Both the 17 Pro as well as the Pro Max have a rear screen. Unlike the small rear screens that appeared on the company's previous experimental devices, the rear screen present in the Xiaomi 17 Pro as well as the Pro Max it is a fully functional second screen.
This second screen can display a clock, your own AI-generated avatar, or AI pet images, while also allowing users to interact with notifications and reminders. Users can even pin important notes or tasks to the rear screen with a single tap.
The rear display also supports live previews for selfies taken with the main rear camera, allowing users to see the framing of the selfie in real time on the rear display.
In recent months, the company has released frequent updates to the devices' software via OTA, adding features such as dialogue translation, a photo booth function, dynamic photo and video wallpapers, and even the ability to take screenshots of the rear screen when using a case.
